Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has addressed rumors of a rift with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar regarding the formation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) state executive committee in Adamawa.
One faction, led by Shehu Yohanna, maintains that he remains the legitimate state chairman, referencing his leadership before the emergence of the national executive led by former Senate President David Mark.
Another group recently released a caretaker list with Saidu Komsiri as chairman and John Gaman as secretary, a list allegedly endorsed by Atiku.
However, Lawal in an interview described the speculation of a rift as the imagination of idle minds, stressing that there is no disagreement with Atiku.
He described as fake a list currently circulating on social media, purported to be the transition or interim executive list of the ADC in the state.
According to him, the national secretariat of the party has already issued guidelines for forming interim state working committees nationwide.
He said, “You know, an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. We are always in agreement with the former Vice President.”
“Right now, I have the list of the state interim committee as approved by the National Working Committee of the party. In about two days, we will make it public.”
Recall that the ADC has been grappling with internal wrangling at national levels since the controversial dissolution of its previous leadership structures and the inauguration of the Mark-led National Working Committee.
