A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Board of Trustees aligned with National Chairman Nafiu Bala has rejected a coalition initiative led by former Senate President David Mark. The group denounced the coalition as an illegitimate structure supported by rival party elements.
Spokesperson Ekenmi condemned what he called a calculated attempt by prominent politicians to infiltrate the party under coalition pretenses. He stated, “Certain individuals illegally entered our party under coalition banners, introducing a culture of insubordination that undermines our values.”
The faction announced it would neither recognize nor collaborate with Mark’s coalition group. It further authorized Bala to deploy the party’s disciplinary committee against members engaging with coalition-aligned leaders.
Prohibited interactions include dealings with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Liyel Imoke, former ministers Abubakar Malami and Babachir Lawal, and former Imo governor Emeka Ihedioha.
Ekenmi warned that such engagements would constitute support for parallel party structures. Responding to his BoT faction’s endorsement, Bala pledged to uphold ADC’s constitution with impartial leadership.
Bala accused coalition members of constitutional violations through operation of an unauthorized secretariat. “Our constitution explicitly reserves party privileges, including premises access, for registered members in good standing,” he asserted, vowing to resist any attempts to establish competing power centers within ADC.
