The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is abuzz with fresh developments. Enyimba FC has strongly refuted claims of salary reductions. Meanwhile, Barau FC is riding high on confidence after a significant win. Across the continent, Rivers United is making its debut in the CAF Champions League group stage.
Enyimba FC Debunks Salary Reduction Rumours
Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) giants, Enyimba FC, have strongly denied claims of a 50 per cent salary reduction for players. This denial follows their recent 1-0 home defeat to Wikki Tourists. The loss on Sunday marked their second home defeat this 2025-2026 NPFL season.
The disappointing result led to the suspension of technical adviser Stanley Eguma and two assistants. This sparked widespread speculation about the team’s internal stability. The nine-time NPFL champions released a statement on Wednesday. They aimed to clarify the situation.
“Enyimba FC wishes to categorically state that at no time did the management approve, initiate, or implement any salary reduction,” the statement read. It continued, “The club remains fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in its relationship with players and staff.” Enyimba is set to play an away NPFL fixture this weekend against Katsina United.
Barau FC’s Victory Boosts Morale
Meanwhile, Barau FC is feeling optimistic after securing a 2-0 victory over Rangers. The match took place at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. Joseph Kemin and Muhammad Umar scored the crucial goals. These goals earned all three points for the Maliya Boys.
Technical adviser Ladan Bosso praised his squad’s determination. He believes the win can inspire more positive results. “On our preparatory stage of the game, before we left for Katsina, where we picked a point, the players resolved to record a three-game unbeaten run, and we are on the right track to achieve that,” Bosso stated.
He added, “For the victory over Rangers, it’s a sign of good things to come because if you look at the log we have moved out of the relegation zone. We hope that the victory will give us a platform to continue to move forward.” Barau FC now sits 16th in the NPFL table. They currently have 13 points.
