Veteran Nigerian Juju musician Sir Shina Peters has revealed fascinating details about his early life, highlighting a series of accomplishments that occurred while he was still a teenager.
During a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, the 67-year-old music icon shared that his life moved at an incredibly fast pace from a very young age. He disclosed that he began his music career at the age of 10, purchased his first car at 13, became a father at 14, and had completed building his first house by the age of 16.
He stated: “I started my career at the age of 10. I had my first child at 14. I bought my first car at 13. I built my first house at 16.”
Despite these significant past achievements, Sir Shina Peters indicated that he has no immediate plans to make a full return to the music scene. He explained that the current music environment does not align with his creative style, making it difficult for him to find inspiration for new songs.
He also noted that a large portion of his current fanbase comes from outside his native Yoruba community, with many fans, especially from the Igbo community, actively requesting new music from him. However, he feels the present conditions are not conducive for him to create new music actively.
He said: “65 per cent of my fans are Igbos, not Yorubas. My fans are demanding that I give them new music but I don’t just go to the studio. I can’t go to the studio, the atmosphere is not conducive for me. I don’t know what to sing.”
Sir Shina Peters rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with hit albums like Ace and Shina Peters Live, which earned him a permanent place in the history of Nigerian music.
