Veteran actress Idowu Philips, popularly known as Mama Rainbow, has shared the reason behind her decision to remain single following the death of her husband.
The 83-year-old actress revealed that a potential suitor who expressed interest in marrying her changed his mind after witnessing the extent of her family responsibilities.
Mama Rainbow explained that the man visited her home and saw her with her 11 children during a meal. When he realized all the children were hers, he left abruptly and never returned.
This experience solidified her resolve to never remarry, a promise she has upheld for decades.
She stated: “A man wanted to marry me after my husband died, but he ran away when he saw I had 11 kids. He came to my house, saw the children eating with me, and when I confirmed they were all mine, he left and never came back. Since then, I decided never to get married again, and I have kept that promise.”
Mama Rainbow lost her husband in 1984 and has since single-handedly raised their children. Having begun her acting career in the 1960s, she has featured in numerous Yoruba and English-language films. She remains a respected figure in Nollywood, admired for her dedication to family, her strong faith, and her enduring legacy in the entertainment industry.
