The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared it remains unperturbed by potential coalition talks between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The ruling party’s response follows PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s recent openness to opposition alliances.
Opposition Coalition Discussions Emerge
ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi confirmed the coalition discussions after Turaki indicated the PDP would consider “a broad opposition coalition” for the upcoming polls. This potential alliance aims to challenge the APC’s dominance in the next national elections.
APC’s Confident Response
APC Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim dismissed the coalition prospects in an interview. “We wish them good luck,” Ibrahim stated, adding a veiled reference to former President Goodluck Jonathan. “But we aren’t worried by whatever plans they devise.”
Ibrahim emphasized Nigerians’ reluctance to return to PDP governance. “Nigerians recall the PDP’s misrule years,” he asserted. “No responsible citizen will vote for their return.”
“Nigeria has moved beyond that era,” the APC spokesman continued. “Our nation was rescued from poor governance. We remain confident citizens won’t revert to past failures.”
The APC maintains its position despite growing opposition discussions. The party insists any coalition effort won’t threaten its electoral prospects in 2027.
