Enyimba Football Club has suspended head coach Stanley Eguma following a concerning dip in form during the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season. The club also asked assistant coaches Ndubuisi Nduka and Joseph Boma to step aside immediately.
This decisive action came after Sunday’s disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Wikki Tourists in Aba. The loss sparked frustration among supporters and left Enyimba languishing in 11th position. They have secured just 17 points from 13 matches this season.
Assistant coach Lawrence Ukaegbu will assume temporary leadership. His immediate challenge is preparing the squad for an away fixture against Katsina United in Jos. Ukaegbu’s primary task is stabilizing the team’s performance.
Club management explained the suspensions as part of a comprehensive performance review. “This evaluation is essential for the club to regain its competitive edge,” Enyimba stated. “We remain committed to ensuring Enyimba maintains its stature in Nigerian football.”
The decision took effect immediately after an emergency meeting on Sunday. Officials expressed concern over four losses in the team’s last six matches. Management fears the current slump could jeopardize their entire season without intervention.
