Authorities have denied reports of an assassination attempt against naval officer A.M. Yerima in Abuja. Lere Olayinka, an aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has offered an alternative account.
Initial reports surfaced Sunday about Yerima evading an attack. Police officials rejected this narrative Monday morning.
Olayinka disputed the assassination claim. He described a confrontation at a security checkpoint:
“You operated an unmarked vehicle with tinted windows. Police stopped you at a checkpoint.
Officers requested you lower your window. You initially refused. After complying, you declined to identify yourself.
Instead, you contacted fellow naval personnel. You verbally abused the officers during this exchange. Police detained you until colleagues verified your identity.”
“Later, you framed the incident as an assassination attempt. Were the officers detaining you actually plotters?
Was operating an unregistered car official business? Why refuse identification? Social media acclaim may be influencing judgment.”
