Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the Super Eagles to show resilience. This follows Nigeria’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles failed to qualify after a dramatic match on Sunday. They drew 1-1 with DR Congo over 120 minutes in Rabat. The team then lost 4-3 in a penalty shootout. This marks Nigeria’s second consecutive absence from the World Cup.
Obi shared his thoughts on Monday via his social media account. He acknowledged the team’s emotional pain after the defeat. He also commended their dedication.
He wrote, “Our dear Super Eagles, I understand the deep impact yesterday’s result has on each of you.”
“When you wear the green and white, you carry the nation’s heartbeat. I recognise the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment you show in every match.”
Obi urged the players not to let this setback define their future. He emphasised that rebuilding with focus and discipline is crucial now.
He stated, “Do not let this moment break your spirit. Great teams prove their strength by how they respond to adversity.”
“What truly matters is how we stand up, regroup, and rebuild. This must be done with greater discipline, focus, and preparedness. I am confident you will emerge stronger.”
The former Anambra State governor reassured the team. He reminded them that the nation’s belief in their abilities remains unwavering.
He affirmed, “Do not let today’s challenges overshadow tomorrow’s greatness. An eagle never bows its head; it always lifts its wings.”
“Keep your heads high and remain committed. Nigeria believes in you. Together, we will soar again. Keep soaring, Super Eagles.”
