The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared it will proceed with its scheduled National Convention in Ibadan from November 15-16, 2025. This decision comes despite two separate court orders prohibiting the party from holding the convention.
National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba confirmed the party’s stance in an official statement. He urged supporters to disregard claims of postponement, stating: “The 2025 National Convention will go on as scheduled in Ibadan.” Ologunagba serves dual roles as both PDP spokesperson and Secretary of the Convention’s Publicity Sub-Committee.
The party leadership accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating legal challenges to sabotage the convention. PDP officials claim this aligns with APC’s alleged agenda to establish one-party dominance in Nigeria. “We’re aware of plots to destabilize opposition,” the statement read, vowing lawful resistance.
Legal Challenges and Party Resolve
One court order originated from Lamido’s lawsuit regarding denied access to the National Chairmanship nomination form. Another injunction came from three party officials alleging constitutional violations in convention preparations. Despite these legal hurdles, PDP leadership emphasized continuous preparations for the Ibadan event.
The statement concluded by thanking Nigerians for their support. It acknowledged early arrivals of delegates in Ibadan while reaffirming commitment to democratic processes. Convention organizers pledged round-the-clock efforts to ensure the event’s success.
