Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant for Publicity and Communications to Nyesom Wike, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has addressed the recent confrontation between his principal and naval officer A.M. Yarima in Abuja.
Appearing on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ program, Olayinka contended that compliance with superiors must align with legal boundaries.
He emphasized that only commands consistent with established laws warrant obedience.
Olayinka Clarifies His Stance
The communications representative argued military protocols shouldn’t override legal frameworks, stating: “Superiors’ instructions require adherence only when legally sound.”
This perspective follows Tuesday’s heated exchange between Wike and naval personnel at a contested Abuja location.
The FCT Minister had mobilized administration officials to stop unauthorized construction activities.
Military guards reportedly resisted these efforts, resulting in tense interactions captured on video.
Online Reactions from Nigerians
Olayinka’s comments ignited widespread online discussions with polarized viewpoints.
Agusolomon remarked: “Mr. Lere, respectfully, your arguments lack coherence. Please reconsider your position.”
Yomtom questioned: “Whose directives did soldiers follow during your Ekiti government service?”
Entparrot countered: “This comparison to unlawful acts demonstrates flawed reasoning.”
Afterlife added: “The hypothetical example seems irrelevant to this situation.”
