The English Premier League has announced schedule changes for two December fixtures to help Arsenal and Crystal Palace manage a congested calendar period.
Arsenal’s away match at Everton and Crystal Palace’s home game against Leeds United have both been moved from Sunday, December 21st to Saturday, December 20th. The kick-off time shifts from 14:00 GMT to 20:00 GMT.
EFL Quarter-Final Adjustment
This change provides both clubs an extra preparation day before their EFL Cup quarter-final clash on December 23rd. The EFL previously rescheduled this cup tie from December 16th after recognizing Palace would otherwise face three matches within five days due to their concurrent Conference League participation.
Despite the adjustment, Crystal Palace still confronts a demanding schedule. The Eagles will play Finnish side KuPS in the Conference League on Thursday, December 18th before facing Leeds just two days later.
Christmas Eve Option Rejected
Arsenal explored playing the EFL Cup tie on Christmas Eve but ultimately rejected the idea. A club spokesperson explained: “We examined all possibilities including December 24th. However, the disruption to supporters and staff made this option unworkable.”
To assist traveling supporters affected by the schedule change, Arsenal will provide subsidized coach travel to Everton. Fans can secure seats for £10, ensuring accessibility despite the new Saturday evening fixture time.
