Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has publicly commended Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi following the team’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Leeds United. This marks Forest’s first win under their new manager.
The Nigerian international entered Sunday’s match as a second-half substitute. He contributed 32 minutes on the pitch during the crucial win. This appearance marked his fourth league outing this season.
Awoniyi has now featured in three consecutive matches under Dyche’s management. Each appearance came from the bench. The forward consistently demonstrates readiness to make an impact when called upon.
“Taiwo was excellent,” Dyche told BBC Sport. “He seemed a little lost when we arrived but understands his role. He knows he has a part to play for us.”
The manager further praised Awoniyi’s performance after coming on. “I thought he was outstanding. He’s sometimes an unsung hero,” Dyche explained. “Occasionally left out unexpectedly, yet always gives maximum effort. He runs tirelessly until the final whistle.”
Dyche emphasized Awoniyi’s season-long importance. “We’ll need his contributions throughout the campaign. The squad gets a short break now. Then we’ll prepare for our next challenge,” he added.
Forest secured their victory through goals from Ibrahim Sangaré, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Elliot Anderson. Despite this important win, the team remains in 19th position. They enter the international break facing relegation concerns.
