Former Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor and presidential aspirant Kingsley Moghalu has refuted claims identifying him as the Labour Party’s candidate in the recent Anambra State governorship election.
Moghalu expressed dismay over multiple media reports wrongly naming him as Labour Party’s contestant. Some publications even featured his photograph alongside these erroneous claims. He dismissed the reports as false and unprofessional.
The economist-politician attributed the confusion to mistaken identity. Media outlets apparently confused him with George Moghalu, Labour Party’s actual candidate. This mix-up resulted in inaccurate reporting across several platforms.
In his statement, Moghalu clarified: “I am distressed to see several news reports citing me as Labour Party’s candidate. Some even used my photograph alongside these false reports.” He criticized what he called “lazy reporting” that conflated two distinct individuals.
Moghalu emphasized his non-involvement, stating: “I’m not a member of any Nigerian political party. I wasn’t a candidate in the November 2025 Anambra election.” The former presidential hopeful noted he formally exited partisan politics in September 2022.
The clarification references his 2019 presidential run under the Young Progressives Party (YPP). Moghalu’s statement reinforces his continued distance from active political participation since his 2022 resignation.
