Super Eagles Set Up Base in Rabat
Nigeria’s national football team has commenced preparations in Morocco. They are training for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Africa playoff semi-final. The crucial match against Gabon looms this Thursday.
Players Arrive at Camp
Team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed the camp opened Sunday. Eight players were present by afternoon at Rive Hotel. Captain William Troost-Ekong led the early arrivals. Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze joined him. Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, and Olakunle Olusegun completed the initial group. Benjamin Frederick and Chidozie Awaziem were expected later that night.
Training Venue and Coaching Staff
Head coach Eric Chelle is already in Rabat with his technical team. Training occurs at Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan. This 22,000-seat venue will also host Thursday’s decisive match.
Ejuke Returns to Squad
Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke makes his first Super Eagles return since 2021. His recent La Liga performances impressed selectors. Ejuke’s pace and creativity boost Nigeria’s attacking options significantly.
Playoff Schedule and Stakes
Nigeria faces Gabon in Thursday’s semi-final. Simultaneously, Cameroon meets DR Congo at El-Barid Stadium. Both matches occur in Rabat. The winners advance to a November 16 playoff final.
Victory there secures a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs. This represents Nigeria’s path to the 2026 World Cup in North America. After missing Qatar 2022, the Super Eagles aim to return. Their last World Cup appearance was in Russia 2018.
