Academic activities at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, have been suspended for two weeks. This follows the tragic death of a student in a road accident along the Iseyin/Saki Road.
The victim, a 200-level Agricultural Economics student, died on Friday. A speeding commercial vehicle struck the student before fleeing the scene. Witnesses reported that angry students later set the abandoned vehicle ablaze.
University Registrar Olayinka Balogun confirmed the incident on Saturday. He described the event as heartbreaking. The suspension honors the deceased and allows the community to grieve.
Balogun stated: “LAUTECH management deeply regrets this tragic loss. Our student was fatally injured by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin. We extend heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues.”
The registrar announced the immediate suspension affects all academic operations. Students from the College of Agricultural Sciences must begin a two-week break. Classes will resume on November 24, 2025.
Essential staff will receive duty schedules during the suspension. Balogun urged students to prioritize safety and support each other. He also asked them to honor their late colleague’s memory.
The accident has plunged the university into mourning. Many students now demand enhanced safety measures on Iseyin/Saki Road. They hope to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
