I Told My Mum I Was Going To Die – Odumodublvck Recounts Near-Death Experience During Tonsil Surgery

Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has opened up about a terrifying health scare he experienced during what was supposed to be a routine tonsillectomy. The artist, whose real name is Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, revealed that the procedure took an unexpected turn, transforming from a standard 30-minute surgery into a five-hour life-threatening emergency.

The incident occurred around the time he released his hit single “Declan Rice.” What began as a simple tonsil removal escalated when unexpected complications arose during the operation. Fortunately, a doctor who happened to be nearby—a specialist who normally worked an hour away—arrived at the hospital within minutes and was able to assist in saving Odumodublvck’s life.

Following the surgery, the rapper experienced significant fear and uncertainty about his survival. He shared that he even told his 71-year-old mother that he believed he was going to die. This emotional moment highlighted the severity of the situation he had just endured.

In a viral video, Odumodublvck recounted: “That’s so crazy because I thought I was going to die. That’s so crazy. When I dropped Declan Rice, that’s when I did the surgery. I took out my tonsils. I don’t have tonsils, and when I did the surgery the first time, this is the first time I’m saying this on camera.”

He continued: “Surgery of 20 minutes or 30 minutes took five hours. The guy that was doing the surgery said that in 12 years of doing that surgery, he has never asked for help. But that day, he asked for help, and the guy he asked was staying one hour away. But that day when he called, he was two minutes away at the filling station. He just came in, even the hospital did not know he came in. He came like an angel and went. When the surgery was done, I thought I was actually going to die. I was telling my mother that I’m not going to make it.”

This experience adds to a series of recent public incidents involving the artist, including an assault case and comments on industry awards. However, this health scare stands out as a deeply personal account of a life-threatening situation that thankfully had a positive outcome.
