Super Falcons Forward Claims Hotel Staff Stole Cash During Casablanca Camp
Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has accused employees of the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca of stealing money from several players while the team was in residence for their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) preparations.
The allegations emerged in a series of Snapchat posts where Okoronkwo stated that cash vanished from her wallet. She initially reported a loss of $500, later correcting the figure to $700 after recounting her money.
“This Marriott hotel in Casablanca just stole a lot of people’s money from their wallets!” she wrote, adding that a teammate also had a small amount taken.
In a follow‑up message, Okoronkwo clarified: “Guys, I did my calculations wrong. They actually stole $700, not $500 USD.” She alleged that the cleaning staff entered rooms when players were absent and took the cash, noting that hotel representatives offered no satisfactory explanation and behaved disrespectfully.
As of the time of this report, neither the hotel nor the tournament organisers have issued a public response to the claims.
Team Continues Build‑Up Despite Incident
Despite the disturbance, the Super Falcons pressed on with their preparations. In Casablanca they concluded camp with a 2‑1 friendly victory over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring, and Okoronkwo netted the decisive goal.
The squad departed Casablanca for Rabat on July 25. They will open their WAFCON title defence against debutants Malawi at Al Madina Stadium on Tuesday, before facing Zambia and Egypt in Group C.
