Osun Central PDP Aspirant Ibraheem Adekunle Rejects Fadeyi’s Ticket Claim, Warns of Legal Action
Ibraheem Adekunle, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial aspirant in Osun State, has declared that he remains the party’s valid candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.
Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi had earlier announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and claimed to have secured the Osun Central senatorial ticket under a PDP faction after supposedly obtaining a waiver from the party on 8 May 2026.
Adekunle rejected this claim, pointing out that Fadeyi participated in the APC senatorial primary just ten days later, on 18 May 2026, for the same office. He argued that holding membership in two parties simultaneously is impossible and demanded a clear explanation before any recognition of Fadeyi as the PDP candidate.
The PDP aspirant further stated that by the time Fadeyi took part in the APC primary, the PDP had already concluded its nomination process — including the sale of forms, screening, the primary election, declaration of a winner and submission of the successful candidate’s details to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He said he was the sole aspirant in the PDP primary, which was conducted in accordance with the party constitution and the Electoral Act, and that his name was duly forwarded to INEC and uploaded on the commission’s nomination portal.
Adekunle warned against any attempt to replace his name on the list of candidates already submitted to INEC, insisting that he would seek judicial intervention should his candidacy be tampered with.
