Tottenham Hotspur has publicly backed defender Destiny Udogie after the player and his family reportedly faced a gun threat incident in North London. The 22-year-old Italian international, who has been a standout performer this season, was allegedly threatened in September.
Authorities arrested a 31-year-old man linked to the case. He has since been released on bail pending further investigations. Tottenham confirmed their unwavering support for Udogie during this challenging period.
A club spokesperson stated: “We have provided continuous support for Destiny and his family since the incident. This remains an ongoing legal matter preventing further comment.”
Police reports indicate officers responded to the incident on September 6. A man in his twenties was threatened with a firearm in a residential area popular with footballers. Investigations revealed the same suspect allegedly threatened and blackmailed another young man.
Authorities confirmed no injuries occurred during either incident. The suspect faces charges including firearm possession with intent, blackmail, and unlicensed driving.
Demonstrating remarkable professionalism, Udogie returned to action shortly after the incident. He featured in Tottenham’s decisive 4-0 Champions League victory against Copenhagen.
