In a significant political shift, over 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Tarai in Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano State have defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The move strengthens NNPP’s grassroots structure amid Kano’s evolving political landscape.
The defectors were led by Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, former APC Woman Leader in Tarai. She attributed their decision to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s visible development projects and pro-people programs across Kano State. “We’re impressed by the numerous projects executed by Gov. Yusuf,” Tarai stated, noting the administration’s leadership had renewed their confidence in NNPP’s vision.
Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Adamu A. Kibiya, formally welcomed the new members. He praised their decision while assuring equal treatment within NNPP. “You’ve joined a party that prioritizes people’s welfare,” Kibiya affirmed. He urged unity with existing members to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
The commissioner also hinted at impending defections from neighboring wards. More APC members in Kibiya LGA are expected to switch allegiance in coming weeks. This aligns with ongoing grassroots mobilization efforts supporting Governor Yusuf’s administration.
