David Beckham has received a knighthood from King Charles III. This honor marks a significant milestone for the former England captain. It recognizes his transition from football icon to national figure.
The ceremony took place at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. Beckham, 50, was accompanied by wife Victoria and parents Sandra and David. His inclusion in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list celebrates his football legacy. It also honors his service to British society.
“I couldn’t be prouder,” stated Beckham. “People know my deep patriotism. Our monarchy remains important to my family. During global travels, conversations often center on our royal institution. This fills me with pride.”
Victoria Beckham designed her husband’s ceremony outfit. She received her OBE for fashion contributions in 2017. Beckham shared that King Charles admired his suit choice. “He’s the most elegant dresser I know,” Beckham noted. “His style inspired this look. My wife brought the vision to life after I showed her his early morning suit photographs.”
Beckham’s football career includes 115 England appearances. He captained the national team from 2000-2006. The Manchester United academy graduate became legendary under Sir Alex Ferguson. His achievements include six Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
Post-United, Beckham played for Real Madrid and LA Galaxy. He had loan spells at AC Milan before retiring at PSG in 2013. His influence extends beyond football. Beckham helped secure London’s successful 2012 Olympic bid.
Since 2005, Beckham has collaborated with UNICEF. He established the 7 Fund in 2015 to aid vulnerable children. In 2024, he became a King’s Foundation ambassador. The role focuses on youth education and environmental awareness.
Beckham shares longstanding royal connections. Queen Elizabeth II awarded him an OBE in 2003. He famously queued for over 12 hours to pay respects during her lying-in-state. Now officially “Sir David,” he co-owns Inter Miami and Salford City football clubs.
