Well-known comedian Tomama, also called Datwarrigirl, explained that the frequent push from parents for their daughters to marry often stems from a lack of open dialogue.

She noted in an Instagram video that many ladies hide their relationship struggles from their families, leaving parents puzzled about their single status.

She pointed out that if parents were aware of the emotional hurdles their daughters face, they would likely ease the marriage pressure.
“Ladies, the reason your parents keep urging you to wed is that you keep silent about what you experience in those relationships. You don’t share what you see. Speak up, because I always tell my mum everything,” she remarked.
Tomama recalled crying after a painful breakup and phoning her mother to share the ordeal. Instead of pushing her to find another partner, her mum advised her to take time to heal.
She also mentioned that she continually updates her mother about anyone entering her life, a practice she feels has fostered family understanding and lessened the urge to rush into marriage.
“Anyone who enters my life, I inform her. Who would want to see their child cry? They’ll tell you, ‘No rush, please,’” she added.
Her comments have sparked online discussion, with many Nigerians agreeing that honest communication with parents can relieve marital pressure, while others expressed differing opinions on family expectations and relationships.
