PDP Applauds Release of Oyo Kidnapped Pupils and Teachers After 56-Day Ordeal
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the rescue of pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing their safe return after 56 days in captivity as a major relief for families and communities.
In a statement issued on Friday by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong, the party said the victims’ return brought relief not only to their families but also to the wider public that had followed the ordeal with anxiety.
Although full details of the operation remain undisclosed, the PDP praised the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and all stakeholders whose efforts contributed to the safe return of the abducted individuals.
The statement highlighted that the rescue underscores the importance of cooperation among different levels of government, security forces and citizens in tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The opposition party described the experience as traumatic, stressing that schools must remain safe places for learning and should never become targets for criminal attacks.
“No one should be subjected to such trauma in the pursuit of education,” the statement added, urging authorities to address the security gaps that allowed the abduction to occur.
The PDP called on the Federal Government to go beyond celebrating the release and to take decisive steps to prevent a recurrence, including improving intelligence gathering, strengthening protection around educational institutions and dismantling criminal gangs responsible for school kidnappings.
“The protection of lives and property remains the first responsibility of government and is the irreducible minimum that our country and its citizens deserve,” the party concluded.
