Seyi Makinde Keeps Mum on 2027 Running Mate
The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has refused to name his preferred running mate for the 2027 presidential election. He said that internal party consultations are still underway and no decision has been finalised.
When asked to reveal the individual being considered for the vice‑presidential slot, Makinde responded that the party had not concluded its discussions. He assured Nigerians that the final choice would become known once the APM’s candidates are officially uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
“Let us wait until the names are uploaded to the INEC portal. It is part of the consultation process,” Makinde stated. “We still have enough time, and the consultations will continue.”
Bauchi Governor Highlights Value of Inter‑Governor Dialogue
Speaking after a meeting of governors, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed described Makinde’s visit as part of a broader effort for state leaders to exchange ideas and learn from one another. He characterised such engagements as an essential element of peer review among sub‑national officials.
Mohammed emphasised that governance thrives on continuous collaboration and interaction between colleagues at both sub‑national and national levels to tackle challenges and share best practices. He noted that regular consultations among governors enable states to adopt policies and programmes that have proven successful elsewhere.
The Bauchi governor also expressed optimism about the APM’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections, labelling the party as an emerging opposition platform capable of playing a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“The APM is growing into the next major opposition party that is repositioning itself to provide constructive opposition in the country,” Mohammed added.
