As Anambra State prepares for its November 8 gubernatorial election, the Labour Party (LP) has nominated George Moghalu as its standard bearer. The seasoned politician and former National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) managing director aims to lead the southeastern state.
Early Life and Education
Moghalu hails from Nnewi in Anambra South Senatorial District. He holds a Business Administration degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Professional and Political Journey
Before politics, Moghalu built a reputation in business administration. His public service includes serving as NIWA’s Managing Director.
Originally a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he served as National Auditor. Moghalu defected to Labour Party in 2024.
In 2025, he secured Labour’s governorship ticket with 575 delegate votes during the Awka primary. Party members celebrated his emergence as strengthening LP’s grassroots presence in the southeast.
Campaign Vision and Running Mate
Moghalu’s deputy candidate is Ifeoma Veronica Okaro. The retired educationist formerly chaired the Post Primary Schools Service Commission.
Their joint campaign pledges transparency, youth empowerment and infrastructure revival across Anambra’s 21 local government areas. Their slogan is “Restoring Trust and Good Governance.”
Moghalu vows to unite party leadership for victory. He aims to bring Anambra into the Labour Party fold. During his campaign launch attended by LP leaders and Peter Obi, he promised servant leadership focused on public interest.
