Jürgen Klopp Poised to Replace Julian Nagelsmann as Germany Head Coach
Multiple German media outlets report that former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is the leading candidate to become the next head coach of the Germany national team.
This comes after Germany’s shocking last‑32 exit to Paraguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which has put current coach Julian Nagelsmann under intense pressure.
Bild reported on July 2 that Nagelsmann held a three‑hour meeting with DFB officials in Frankfurt, where he was offered a severance package worth around seven million euros.
Klopp, who stepped away from club management after leaving Liverpool in 2024, currently serves as Red Bull’s head of global football, overseeing clubs in Austria, Germany, Brazil, the United States and Japan.
Sky Germany and Süddeutsche Zeitung have also named him the overwhelming favourite to lead the four‑time world champions.
Germany’s penalty‑shootout loss to Paraguay marked the third consecutive early World Cup exit, following group‑stage eliminations in Russia and Qatar, and the nation’s first knockout match since winning the title in Brazil in 2014.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has announced an immediate investigation into the World Cup failure, while Nagelsmann’s contract, renewed in January 2025 until 2028, faces an uncertain future.
