NPFL Sets August 27‑29 Kickoff for 2026/2027 Season

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fixed the weekend of August 27‑29 as the kickoff for the 2026/2027 season. The decision followed a joint stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja that included the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, the NPFL and club owners.
Under the approved football calendar, the new campaign will run until May 28, 2027. The schedule also makes room for President Federation Cup fixtures, aiming to create a more orderly and predictable domestic football programme.
An increased prize fund forms part of wider reforms designed to boost the league’s commercial appeal, improve competition and attract fresh investment into Nigerian football.
Four clubs – Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, Ranchers Bees and Doma United – have earned promotion from the Nigeria National League and will replace the four sides relegated at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
They will join defending champions Enugu Rangers, who secured their ninth NPFL title by finishing atop the table in the 2025/26 season.
