Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused the Federal Government of withholding local government funds allocated to the state despite a valid court order. He alleged that the government is seizing Osun’s federal allocation and enabling partisan interference in state governance.
South-West Dialogue Address
Governor Adeleke voiced these grievances during a two-day South-West stakeholders’ dialogue in Akure. The event focused on strengthening democracy through regional cooperation. Represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Adeleke condemned what he called “replacement of rule of law with rule of thumb” in Osun State.
“Federal power is being applied outside constitutional regulations in Osun,” Adeleke stated. “This politicization threatens peaceful intergovernmental relations.” He specifically accused security agencies of shielding political operatives of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The governor detailed how elected local officials were denied office access. Meanwhile, officials dismissed by court orders were forcibly reinstated. “Local government funds were seized without any legal justification,” Adeleke emphasized.
Alleged Regional Marginalization
Adeleke further accused the Tinubu-led administration of marginalizing Osun. He claimed this occurs despite the state being part of the South-West region. “Partisan considerations now dictate federal interactions with Osun,” the governor lamented.
He concluded that such practices endanger intergovernmental harmony. The governor stressed that political partisanship overshadows collaborative governance efforts. Adeleke’s remarks highlighted growing tensions between state and federal authorities.
