Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has expressed profound distress. His wife, Natasha, is currently receiving death threats. These threats emerged after videos of their recent altercation in London surfaced online, sparking public discussion.
The Idibia family submitted a letter on November 12. In this letter, they urged the police to launch an investigation into certain incidents. They claim these events have caused 2Baba significant emotional distress, financial losses, and reputational damage.
The petition detailed reports from both 2Baba and various witnesses. These reports allege incidents of physical assault occurring in both the United Kingdom and Abuja. Furthermore, the family claims Natasha accessed and transferred funds from 2Baba’s phone and bank accounts without his explicit permission. She is also accused of withholding his personal documents, including his passport. This alleged action reportedly prevented him from fulfilling several business engagements.
In response, 2Baba released a video via his social media page on Friday. He publicly accused his family of “destroying” him. He also stated they deliberately damaged Natasha’s character in the public eye.
The music icon emphasised that the situation has escalated dangerously. He declared he would no longer remain silent. 2Baba firmly stated his right to make his own choices as an adult. He also claimed his family had previously acted similarly towards his estranged wife, Annie. He added that all marriages face challenges, assuring everyone that he is “perfectly okay.”
Part of his statement read: “This whole situation has gotten dangerously out of hand. Natasha is getting death threats. I will not stay silent anymore. I’m grown and have the right to do what I want and be with whoever I want. My family, who claimed they wanted to save me, have actually destroyed me and damaged someone’s daughter’s character.”
He continued: “Natasha and I have had a quarrel, tell me who does not quarrel with their spouse. Things are getting out of hand but I’m perfectly okay. My family also did this same thing with Annie.”
