Nigeria’s Super Eagles have intensified preparations for their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash against Gabon, with 21 players already in camp at their Morocco training base. The crucial qualifier kicks off Thursday as both teams battle for World Cup qualification.
Training commenced on Monday under coach Eric Chelle’s supervision. Several key players participated in the first session. Captain William Troost-Ekong led the group alongside Calvin Bassey and Benjamin Frederick.
Other squad members include Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, and Moses Simon. The camp also features Tolu Arokodare, Chidozie Awaziem, and Chidera Ejuke.
Samuel Chukwueze, Olakunle Olusegun, and Bright Osayi-Samuel are present. Additional players include Zaidu Sanusi, Raphael Onyedika, and Frank Onyeka. Semi Ajayi, Akor Adams, Bruno Onyemaechi, Ademola Lookman, and goalkeeper Amas Obasogie complete the current roster.
Three more players are expected before Thursday’s match. Victor Osimhen headlines the anticipated arrivals.
Nigeria approaches the playoff with confidence. They secured a 4-0 victory against Benin Republic in October. Gabon defeated Burundi 2-0 in their final group match.
Both teams demonstrated strong qualifying form. Nigeria lost just one of ten Group C matches. Gabon suffered only one defeat in their campaign. Nigeria remains unbeaten against Gabon in previous encounters.
Thursday’s winner advances to face Cameroon or DR Congo on Sunday. The victor secures a spot in March 2026’s FIFA playoff tournament.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. local time at Rabat’s Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex.
