Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has spoken out after an altercation with officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), who interrupted her charitable cooking event in Lekki. In a detailed Instagram post, Martins described the incident as a display of lack of empathy towards the underprivileged children who benefit from her initiative.
Martins clarified that the meal was intended for approximately 200 street children who depend on her regular feeding program for their daily sustenance. She noted that many of these children had not eaten all day and were eagerly anticipating the meal before the disruption occurred.
She expressed that her tears were not for the confiscated cooking utensils or the lost food, but for the heartbreak and hunger of the children who rely on her support. Martins emphasized that her initiative is not driven by publicity or financial gain, highlighting that her social media platforms are not monetized.
She highlighted that her outreach efforts over the past seven years have been focused on providing comfort and a sense of value to street children. Martins suggested that the KAI officials could have allowed her to complete the meal distribution before addressing any safety concerns, rather than interrupting the process abruptly.
