Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo have earned nominations for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, following their exceptional performances during Nigeria’s victorious campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Both players were instrumental in Nigeria’s successful campaign, which saw the team clinch a record-extending 10th continental title. Okoronkwo stood out with two goals and six assists throughout the tournament, while team captain Ajibade contributed a goal and two assists, showcasing their pivotal roles in the team’s success.

They now join a shortlist of nine other nominees from across Africa, including reigning holder Barbara Banda of Zambia. This nomination highlights their rising status in African women’s football.

Madugu Recognized for Coaching Excellence

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has also been shortlisted for the CAF Coach of the Year award, a testament to his tactical acumen and leadership. Under his guidance, Nigeria defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to reclaim the continental crown. His nomination underscores the significant impact he has made in a short period.

In the youth category, Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team captain, Shakirat Moshood, has earned a nomination for the CAF Young Player of the Year award. Moshood has been a consistent performer for the Flamingos and is expected to lead the team in the upcoming 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, also to be held in Morocco.

Adding to Nigeria’s strong representation, the Super Falcons have been nominated for the National Team of the Year award, recognizing their impressive and dominant campaign throughout the WAFCON tournament.
