Renowned gospel artist Yinka Ayefele has revealed that a life-altering 1997 car accident, which resulted in permanent wheelchair use, became the defining moment that transformed his career trajectory.
Before the accident, Ayefele worked as a jingle producer at Radio Nigeria’s Ibadan station. He had purchased a Volkswagen Beetle through his earnings, but tragedy struck during a trip to Abeokuta in Ogun State.
This incident redirected Ayefele’s path toward music and broadcasting. His vision for establishing a radio station emerged after successful Facebook live streams attracted substantial audiences both locally and internationally.
Despite facing a challenging seven-year licensing process with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), he persevered. Ayefele also addressed the 2018 demolition of his Music House by Oyo State authorities under late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
In his reflections, Ayefele noted: “That 1997 accident became my turning point. The demolition unexpectedly boosted my brand’s visibility, becoming a blessing when the station was later reconstructed.”
He emphasized the rigorous scrutiny during his NBC licensing: “If similar investigations applied to other station owners, few would exist today.” His journey demonstrates remarkable resilience in transforming adversity into opportunity.
